Alicia who?

I am a 22-year old student completing a Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Art Education at the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales. My studio majors for the duration of my double-degree have been both graphics media and jewellery design.

These studios have allowed me to develop both knowledge and skills in the use of a number of design programs including:
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe InDesign
  • CorelDraw
  • Vectorworks
  • iMovie
  • Final Cut Pro
  • Microsoft Office
As part of my graphic design studies, I have completed a number of projects including the design and production of magazines, business collateral, logos, typography and a final portfolio. I have also worked with briefs for companies such as The National Association for the Visual Arts.

I have also developed skills and techniques in producing both small and large scale jewellery with a range of materials including metal, fabric and paper. The majority of my jewellery projects have also been directed by a brief from companies including Peter Stutchbury Architecture and Tuskc.

My design skills are accompanied by my learning and teaching knowledge and skills in the subjects of:
  • Visual Arts
  • Design and Technology
  • Visual Design
  • Photography
  • Graphics
  • Industrial Technology (Metal)

I have completed three practicums in NSW Primary and High Schools in Western Sydney including:
  • Hambledon Primary School, Quakers Hill
  • Rouse Hill Anglican College, Rouse Hill
  • Quakers Hill High School, Quakers Hill

Each of these schools have allowed me to develop my teaching practice and confidence with both students, parents and colleagues in a professional environment. During these practicums, I have created and organised a number of different programs, lessons and activities for young students in both subject areas which have been successful in meeting syllabus requirements, whilst being interesting and engaging for students. My experience in teaching design and technology also provided me with the opportunity to critique a COFA Art Education Course Design and Technology: Curriculum and Pedagogy in which I advised what the course should include and why in order to be accepted by the NSW Institute of Teachers and Department of Education and Training.

2012, my fifth and final year will include the completion of both a design internship and practical experience in a NSW High School. My design internship will be completed at the Flexart Group located in Melbourne, Victoria. I have also been accepted as a practicuum student at Glenwood High School, Glenwood, where I will be completing my 13-week teaching program.

I will also be creating a Major Design Project that utilises both my graphics and jewellery studios as well as my Education degree.

This design project will be complimented by my enrolment in the Bachelor of Art Education/ Design Honours program which will involve the development and presentation of a thesis and studio component.

My University studies highlight my strong passion and love for art, design and education which is why I am training to become both a jewellery and graphic designer as well as a creative educator. Ultimately, at the completion of my degree I will be looking for any opportunity that will provide me with experience in a creative environment in which I can start my career as a designer and creative educator.
