As a designer, my current studies at the College of Fine Arts, UNSW have enabled me to develop and produce a successful approach to design in both jewellery studio and graphics media.
My jewellery designs have been created with a focus and concentration on the organic form and how this can be used as an approach to producing jewellery including rings, necklaces and large sculptural pieces. Whilst quite often directed by a brief or client, all of my jewellery designs follow the same approach by considering the use of simple line and movement to create a form. This has consequently formed an aesthetic within my work that allows a connection to be made throughout my portfolio. Silver and aluminium are the central materials used within my jewellery designs with the incorporation of bright colours or fabrics.
With regard to my approach in creating graphic designs, I still like to maintain simplicity with the use of a limited colour palette and basic shapes and forms. I am directed towards bright and vibrant colours, which is clearly evident in my final solutions to the range of briefs I have been required to design for. My approach also involves the use of simple grid layout systems and basic serif fonts including Helvetica.
Whilst my design approach towards both jewellery and graphics media reflects a personal sense of aesthetic, it does however target itself towards delivering the best solution for the client or brief. I am a designer that provides professional services for the industry and for the interests of the client, yet I still try to engage with my own approaches when designing for others. My approach also considers how different shapes and forms are organised, particularly in my graphic designs where the organisation of information is critical in creating visually appealing and successful design.
The graphic language that reflects this position on design and the role of myself as a designer demonstrates my aesthetic taste and approach to creating jewellery and graphic designs with regard to elements of simplicity, shape, form, colour and visual organisation.
